The Rise of Totalitarianism

Although Stalin may have fallen on the opposite side of the political spectrum from Hitler and Mussolini, they had several similar characteristics and practices.  What were a few of these similarities?

  1. The three of them wanted a pure race of their own, if you went against them you would be punished, anyone who didn't agree with them or who wasn't the ideal race was punished/killed, and they all wanted to recreate society. (Recreate the Russian Empire, recreate ancient Rome, etc.)

  3. Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini all wanted to bring power back to there countries and make them great again. All of these men had secret police that took care of any people who did not agree with them. They all wanted every one to be completely devoted to them and not believe in god. All of these leaders wanted to create a pure race by the creation of scapegoats.

  4. all 3 leaders had a similar state of mind. they all wanted to accomplish similar things. they wanted complete devotion by their people towards them as a leader, and gave punishment to those who did not worship them. they all were trying to make their country the greatest and most powerful. this included purifying their citizens by race. stalin eliminated non-russinas, mussolini got rid of non-italians, and hitler attempted to destroy the jews and anybody else who didnt fit the aryan standard. all leaders used full authority and violence to get their ways.

  5. All leaders tried to recreate a nation in order to make it the way they wanted it to be, and if the nation wasn't the way they wanted it, then they used very violent ways to make it a certain way. All three leaders exterminated people if they did not follow the requirements that the leaders wanted. They were all very powerful and it was illegal to go against them.

  8. they always had a sneaky other thing they truly wanted but it would be hidden by other motives. Each leader wanted their country to be great again like how they were back in the day. They wanted to strengthen their armies and to be the country everyone feared again. these leaders it was illegal to go against so there was no fighting for a new leader. the all had a race of some sort or another to blame and be their scapegoat.

  10. All three leaders were extreme nationalists that wanted to make their country a strong and pure empire. Hilter wanted the Third Reich, Mussolini wanted to recreate ancient rome, Stalin wanted to recreate Russian Empire. They all wanted racial purity: Russians, Italians, Germans(Aryans). All liked violence and war. They all created scrapgoats. They all had undercover police that killed people. All had a way to brainwash people into following them.
