When Canada came into the war and took over Vimy Ridge, the other counties realized that we mean business and we are a strong country. Britain knew Canadians were strong, since they were allies. But other countries were surprised and feared Canada with their new reputation.
Our nation came together and fought in the war, they did a good job of it and got some recognition. This recognition then allowed our nation to celebrate and become closer as a whole.
I think this is somewhat true, we did bring in some new tactics. Example: peeing on rags, digging under the enemies... Though we lost a lot of men, we were more recognized and feared as a country and nation.
